Culture and history
The Church of Saint-Pierre and Saint-Paul in Jaux was built in its oldest sections in the 12th century and partially rebuilt in the 16th century. It contains a rare rood beam dating from the late 16th or early 17th century, with polychrome sculptures of Christ and the Apostles. It also features an unusual layout with a three-bay hall choir that is considerably larger than the nave.
The Chapelle de Boucquy was built in the 12th century by members of religious orders from Saint-Corneille. It still exists today, but is no longer used for its original purpose and serves as an agricultural shed. The chapel also became a frequently visited pilgrimage site.
Texts from the years 1218 and 1340 document winegrowing on the hills of Jaux and in the surrounding area of Venette. Wine production was one of the commune's earlier activities.
