Nature

Fresnoy-le-Luat lies at the foot of the northern slope of the hill range known as the Montagne de Rosières and belongs to the Oise–Pays de France Regional Nature Park. At 162 m high, the Montagne de Rosières is an outlier hill that was isolated by erosion as a resistant remnant of a rock stratum. For Fresnoy-le-Luat, the Biodiversity Atlas lists 63 protected species.

Culture and history

The Church of Saint-Jean preserves complex, refined Flamboyant-style tracery as well as a finely carved cornice with thistles, pinnacles and a gargoyle. The Church of Saint-Jean in Le Luat has a pentagonal choir bay dating from the late 15th century and a slightly newer transept.

The Church of Saint-Martin’s main architectural feature is an elegant Renaissance bell tower with a stone spire. The original, simple Church of Saint-Martin, built at the beginning of the 13th century, retains a single-nave choir bay with a flat end, a chapel adjoining it to the south and the north wall of the nave.

The final bay of the Church of Saint-Maurice in Ducy can be dated to the period from 1298 to 1304 based on texts and is associated with the foundation of a chapel dedicated to Saint Louis. The Church of Saint-Maurice in Ducy was rebuilt several times and probably dates from the early 12th century; it was remarkably restored in the 1970s.

Local heritage

Near the church in Fresnoy stands a replica of the Grotto of Lourdes with a statue of the Virgin Mary, which is still maintained today. Madame Alix Hervaux had this site erected; between 1880 and 1900, she regularly made pilgrimages to Lourdes.
