Culture

The church of Sainte-Gemme-la-Plaine was mentioned in the 14th century as a priory and parish church and was listed as a historic monument by decree of 16 February 1995.

La Chevallerie is now privately owned. The 18th-century manor house has two round towers, side pavilions and a central triangular pediment. Inside, La Chevallerie retains wood panelling and a staircase with a wrought-iron railing.

The Logis de Chavigny in Sainte-Gemme-la-Plaine was listed as a historic monument on 3 February 1999.

The Logis de la Popellinière consists of two wings dating from the 15th and 16th centuries. The older wing contains elements from the 12th century; both wings are arranged around an octagonal tower. The stair tower was built around 1570 by Lancelot Voysin and retains a stair railing set into the wall, as well as preserved carved door and window surrounds. Lancelot Voysin was born in this logis in 1541; some of the surviving buildings date from the 15th century.

Nature

The Centre Equestre de Sainte Gemme la Plaine is located on the edge of a 150-hectare state forest and offers year-round horse and pony-riding lessons for beginners and for riders who wish to improve their skills.

When hiking in the Sainte-Gemme-la-Plaine forest, trails pass through stands of downy, pedunculate and holm oaks, other shrubs and wild daffodils.

Events

In 2026, the municipality of Sainte-Gemme-la-Plaine, together with the CIAG, invites visitors to its traditional Fête Populaire, a convivial evening of music.
