Culture and History

The Église Saint-Cyr in Saint-Cyr-en-Talmondais dates back to the 14th century and features architecture resembling a strict Cistercian style. Its Romanesque portal is decorated with a double row of small columns and flanked by two rectangular niches. The choir contains the only surviving remains of the former Chapelle du Prieuré Notre-Dame, which was built in the 11th century.

The two bridges at Port-la-Claye over the River Le Lay have been listed as historic monuments since 20 November 1985; the site extends across Curzon, Lairoux and Saint-Cyr-en-Talmondais.

The Court d’Aron estate includes a Renaissance pavilion commissioned by Benjamin Fillon. After his death in 1881, Raoul de Rochebrune and his father Octave continued the restoration work that had been begun. The Château de la Cour d’Aron is privately owned.

Nature

Saint-Cyr-en-Talmondais has remarkable bocage hedgerows and wooded areas. The Parc floral et tropical de la Court d’Aron covers 10 hectares and contains around 3,000 plant species. The Parc de la Court d’Aron is open from the Easter holidays to the All Saints’ holidays, that is, from April to October.

Cycling Route

The 34.8-kilometre cycling route “Ça roule dans le Marais poitevin” passes through Saint-Cyr-en-Talmondais. It runs through five municipalities, including Saint-Cyr-en-Talmondais, and has eleven information stops with panels explaining the functioning and history of the Marais.

Events

The Fête des Lotus at the Parc de la Court d’Aron takes place in July and August. It includes a Polynesian-themed meal called “Ahi Ma’a”.
