Culture and history

Mouzeuil-Saint-Martin is home to the Église de la Sainte-Trinité, which was completed in 1158 and served as the priory chapel. Its Gothic choir dates from the 13th to the 14th century and features a rib-vaulted ceiling. The church also contains a Descent from the Cross painted on canvas in 1685 by Pierre II Besnard from Angers.

Part of the Geoffroy d’Estissac Priory complex has been preserved; Geoffroy d’Estissac had it rebuilt in 1540. The priory residence features the prelate’s coat of arms and windows with perspective views. The Geoffroy d’Estissac Priory was fully restored by the Vendée département in 2020 and now houses the municipal library.

The Château de la Rivière comprises a 19th-century château and part of the original 16th-century château; both are surrounded by a park. The park includes a formal French garden, an English garden and an exotic garden, as well as wooded areas and meadows.
