Les Landes-Genusson: Holiday Apartments and Houses
Les Landes-Genusson is home to the Cité des Oiseaux, a protected natural area covering 56 hectares and consisting mainly of two ponds. One covers 23 hectares and the other 7 hectares. Those wishing to rent a holiday apartment can choose Les Landes-Genusson as their destination.
Nature
The Cité des Oiseaux offers an observatory, a viewing point and walking paths where waterbirds and migratory songbirds can be observed and heard. It is located along one of the major north–south bird migration routes.
The part of the Cité des Oiseaux intended for the public, around the Maison de l’étang and on the dam of the Grand Étang, is freely accessible. The Cité des Oiseaux also offers free access to Jonathan Rebouillat’s “Origami Sauvage” photography exhibition, both outdoors and in a designated indoor space.
The family game “La quête du Phenix” at the Cité des Oiseaux is aimed at families with children aged four and over.
Culture and History
The present-day parish church of Les Landes-Genusson was built in 1858 using stones from its predecessor buildings. Inside the Chapelle Saint-René are the Vierge de l’Assomption, which came from the former parish church, and the granite tombstone of René Desraoul (1630–1695). The Chapelle Saint-René was demolished and rebuilt on a larger scale in 1904; its history includes the years 1680, 1801 and 1904.
The cross of the Grand Calvaire is flanked by four statues: Notre-Dame des sept douleurs, Saint Jean, le Père de Montfort and Saint François-Xavier. The Grand Calvaire was erected in 1891 on the site of an earlier monument destroyed in 1840 and was completely renovated in 1959 on the occasion of a mission.
The Château de la Godelinière has a preserved section of the moat on its grounds.
