La Chaize-Giraud: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture and History

The Église de la Chaize-Giraud has been classified as a historic monument since 10 February 1921, with the exception of the bell tower. At the western gable, the central portal and two groups of figures are located at least in the lower section. In the 12th century, the sea and the fishermen's boats travelled up the Jaunay as far as the walls of the village's château.

Trails and Nature

The Sentier d'interprétation is an educational trail where visitors can discover La Chaize-Giraud's historical and natural heritage. The Sentier du Muguet is included in the departmental plan for hiking and walking routes (PDIPR). It passes La Croisée Mairand, a site designated as a site of the Vendée Wars, and crosses the Pont de la Chaize, a Napoleonic bridge.

Landscape and Local Tradition

The Aire de pique-nique - Zone de loisirs on the Jaunay has children's play equipment and a pétanque court. The Aire de pique-nique Le Pont de la Gâche is located on the Jaunay and by the Pont de la Gâche. Plage de Sauveterre is a beach in the vicinity of La Chaize-Giraud.

The Fête du Pain in La Chaize-Giraud takes place every year around mid-May; bread, Gâche and brioche are baked in a wood-fired oven.

The Église de Saint-Nicolas-de-Brem is a church in the immediate vicinity of La Chaize-Giraud. Further afield in the region are the Ancienne abbaye Sainte-Croix, a historic site, the Château de La Coursaudière, a château, and the Abbaye Saint-Jean d'Orbestier, a historic site.
