Château-D'olonne: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The approximately five-kilometre-long coast of Château-d'Olonne between Plage de Tanchet and the Cayola pebble dune is known as the “Côte sauvage”. Its landscapes are particularly well explored on foot or by bicycle along the coastal area.

The established coastal path in Bois Saint-Jean offers remarkable views of Baie de Cayola and the remains of old fish weirs. The area around Puits d'Enfer also includes coastal paths with impressive views of the ocean.

Puits d'Enfer is a deep crevice in the cliffs of Château-d'Olonne, into which the sea surges with great force at high tide. The Cayola pebble dune is 120 metres long, 40 metres wide and 7 metres high; it is considered one of the rare formations of its kind in France and even in Europe.

Baie de Cayola is a protected natural area with several benches from which passing hikers can admire the landscape and the pebble dune. It can be reached via a cycle path.

Activities and the sea

Plage de Tanchet is known for board sports. The surfing spot there includes a reef break and a beach break and is considered suitable for all surfers.

Plage de Tanchet is also considered the first important focal point for summer tourism and summer leisure activities.

Culture and history

Saint-Hilaire Church can be visited as part of the “Le Patrimoine en balades” tours organised by the municipal cultural service in summer.

Abbaye Saint-Jean d'Orbestier was built in the 12th century and was an important Benedictine monastery between the 12th and 18th centuries. It is open exclusively during cultural events.

In Bois du Fenestreau, visitors can walk among centuries-old oaks, chestnuts, hornbeams, lime trees and beech trees.
