Culture and history

The oldest documented mention of a place of worship in Boufféré dates from 17 May 1179 and contains the wording “capellam de Boferre”. The present-day Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption church dates from the 19th century; the nave, transept and choir were built between 1861 and 1864 by the architect Victor Clair.

La Sénardière in Boufféré comprises the remains of a former castle dating from the beginning of the 14th century, eight-metre-wide moats and recently restored Renaissance gardens.
