Angles: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Moricq is a hamlet in the municipality of Angles, and the Tour de Moricq towers over the western part of the Marais Poitevin. The Tour de Moricq dates back to the 11th century, served mainly defensive purposes, and was able to control maritime and river traffic between the hinterland and La Rochelle. In Angles, it serves as the venue for the live night-time performance “Les Nuits de la Tour”.

Culture and History

The Pavillon de Moricq was probably built in the 18th century during the drainage works in the Marais de Moricq. The Port de Moricq was known as “Grand Jonchet” in the 15th century; trade in grain and timber developed there in the direction of La Rochelle, Bordeaux and Brittany. The Port de Moricq is open all year round.

The Église Notre Dame des Anges was founded in the second half of the 11th century for clergy who lived in a community according to the rule of Saint Augustine.
