Valennes: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Valennes developed on the right bank of the Braye. The village centre is set in a hilly, wooded area with streams and a ford. In the Perche sarthois, it is a remarkable example of traditional architecture, with half-timbering shaping the historic village centre. The ford on Rue des Sabotiers is the last surviving evidence of the former fords in the village centre and one of the few remaining examples in this area.

Culture
The Church of Saint-Étienne preserves Romanesque elements, including a semicircular apse that may date from the 11th century. The Sainte-Barbe Chapel is also located at the church and may date from the 15th century. The seigneurial chapel of the Saint-Quentin family there is dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
Opposite the church, the seigneurial house of the Valennes fief still stands, although it has been remodelled. Two former barns on Rue de la Bonde and Impasse du Cœur d'Oison preserve remnants of shingle roofs.
History
Before 1790, Valennes had a small hemp-fabric industry, also known as “toiles de Valennes”. Throughout the 19th century, numerous weavers worked there from home. The communal washhouse on Rue de la Bonde was completely demolished and rebuilt in 1900.
The associations of Valennes organise the Fête de la Braise festival every year.

The “Balade de sa Majesté Carnaval” route can also be ridden by mountain bike. It is easy and takes 30 minutes.
