Teloché: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

According to local tradition, the Notre-Dame de l’Épine chapel was built around 1430 after the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared above a hawthorn bush. The chapel later became a place of pilgrimage.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint-Pierre et Saint-Paul was built in the Early Gothic style. Its broad nave is 86 feet long and 32 feet wide and is topped by a bell tower with a hexagonal spire. A wooden statue of the Virgin Mary in the church is classified as a historic monument.

The murals in the Notre-Dame de l’Épine chapel date from the late 15th century. One scene depicts Saint Christopher carrying the Christ Child. The chapel also contains a mural scene depicting the ferryman’s house, a subject rarely found in regional representations. By decree of 29 September 2021, Notre-Dame de l’Épine was listed as a historic monument.

The Archaic Cross is dated to the Carolingian period based on its shape and is one of the few surviving examples in the south of the Sarthe department. Le Rancher was a significant seigneurie of the Bélinois, whose origins date back approximately to the 9th or 10th century. The medieval feudal castle of Le Rancher had two towers, was fortified, and was surrounded by ditches and moats. The chapel of Le Rancher is designed in the Neo-Gothic style and was consecrated in 1890.

Near the former lime kiln in Teloché, remains of earlier lime kilns have been preserved. The lime kilns at the former limeworks were in operation in the 18th and 19th centuries. The lime kilns of Teloché are a rare and well-preserved example of rural lime processing from the 1930s. They have stood within the municipality since 1927 and were built using Hennebique reinforced-concrete techniques.

Events

Le Dôme has a floor area of 250 square metres and a semicircular stage with an area of 30 square metres. The Théâtre de Verdure at the Citadelle des Anges is an open-air theatre. Admission to events there is free for the entire external public.

Hiking

The Circuit L'Epine – Teloché – T1 circular hiking trail is 7 km long. It is designated as a yellow-marked Sentier de Promenade et de Randonnée (PR), classified as moderately difficult, and listed as taking two hours. The Circuit L'Epine – Teloché – T1 allows visitors to discover numerous natural sites, monuments, and places of interest.
