The Château de Passay is one of the heritage features of interest in Sillé-le-Philippe and has been listed as a historic monument since 12 July 1993.

The heritage protection covers the façades and roofs of the château, the detached pavilions facing the courtyard, and the moats.

Culture

The new church in Sillé-le-Philippe was rebuilt after the former church was completely destroyed; the work was completed in September 1874. The traditional washhouse in Sillé-le-Philippe was restored in 2001/2002.

History

In Gallo-Roman times, Sillé-le-Philippe was the main settlement of the Condita Siliacensis, one of nine divisions of the land of the Cenomani.

The Chanteloup monument was erected in 1904 in memory of the clashes in the hamlet of Chanteloup on 11 and 12 January 1871 during the Franco-Prussian War. The stele bears a relief medallion of Commander Arnould and is surrounded by four cannons.

A gravestone near the Chanteloup monument marks the resting place of 25 French mobile guards from the departments of Lot-et-Garonne, Gironde and Finistère, as well as 26 German soldiers who were killed in the clashes at Chanteloup on 11 January 1871.

Trails

La Fosse aux Saneux is a moderately difficult 14.3 km hiking route with a duration of three hours. It is also a yellow-marked hiking trail of the Sentier de Promenade et de Randonnée (PR) type in Sillé-le-Philippe.

The 67 km cycling loop No. 15 "Héritage de la Vallée de l’Huisne" passes through Sillé-le-Philippe; there, cyclists can discover the Château de Chanteloup campsite.

At the Ferme de Passay in Sillé-le-Philippe, Aubrac beef, mutton, poultry and pork are sold directly from the farm.
