Culture

The Romanesque nave of the parish church of Saint-Pierre in Saint-Pierre-du-Lorouër dates from the 11th to the 12th century. The Église Saint-Pierre also contains a wall painting from the 12th to the 13th century depicting a noble couple in a sarcophagus. Another wall painting from the 13th century depicts the burial of Renaud and symbolises prayer for the dead.

The façades and roofs of the Manoir dit Le Follet were listed as a historic monument by decree of 20 September 1928.

Water

The Veuve, a tributary of the Loir, runs through Saint-Pierre-du-Lorouër.

Historical Traces

Les Clos is one of the five manor houses of Saint-Pierre-du-Lorouër that were rebuilt between the 14th century and the beginning of the 17th century. La Cour was already mentioned as a fief and rural lordship in 1280.

The former Chêne Boppe was planted in 1647 and died in December 1934 at the age of 262. The “Fermes et hameaux de Saint-Pierre-du-Lorouër” themed area points out several houses from the 16th and 17th centuries on the edge of the Forêt de Bercé.

In the 19th century, Moulin de la Cour was a manorial grain mill on the Veuve and remained in operation until the First World War. The public washhouse La Fontaine has been preserved on the outskirts of Saint-Pierre-du-Lorouër and was recently roofed over.
