Culture
The Église Saint-Pierre dates from the 12th and 19th centuries. It preserves the tower and apse of a Romanesque church that was extensively remodelled in the 19th century. Its architectural details include quatrefoil, pointed-arch openings and a western door with a pointed-arch form.
The chapel of the church in Crissé contains a parish memorial bearing the names of 38 soldiers, as well as three statues: two angels and Joan of Arc.
The memorial tomb of La Butte au Moblot is also one of the memorial sites. It is surrounded by a railing and has a cast-iron cross with a lowered flag as its shaft and a rifle as its crossbar; at its foot are two downward-pointing sabres. La Butte au Moblot is a tomb for André Gréaud, a member of the mobile guard, who was found dead in this forest after the battle of 15 January 1871 and buried there.
History
The Chemin Montois near Crissé is associated with medieval pilgrims travelling from Le Mans or from farther afield to Mont-Saint-Michel. In the regional context of Sarthe, the Chemins Montois network comprises pilgrimage routes to Mont-Saint-Michel.
