Coulombiers: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

History

On Friday, August 11, 1944, Coulombiers was spotted at around 8:30 a.m. and occupied without resistance at around 9 a.m.; the order was subsequently given to occupy the crossroads area known as “Le Chenil”. At this lieu-dit in Coulombiers stands a granite monument with a Cross of Lorraine. It commemorates five soldiers of the 2e DB who were killed while attacking their tank. Memorial ceremonies are held every year to commemorate the men who fell on August 11, 1944.

Culture

The church of Coulombiers has a semicircular apse and a square bell tower with a level of pointed-arch openings. In the southern wall of the nave there is a bricked-up Romanesque door whose archivolt is decorated with a roll moulding. The two statues on the high altar are made of polychrome and gilded wood, date from the 17th century, and are protected as movable historic monuments.

Geographical setting

La Hutte-Coulombiers railway station has an outdoor platform with shelter, a secure bicycle box, a car park with 40 spaces, and a charging station for electric vehicles. It is located in La Hutte, a locality described by the tourist office as the former municipality of Coulombiers, on the Le Mans–Alençon–Caen railway line.

The road-based variant of the tourist route through the Alpes Mancelles runs along the D118 through Coulombiers and then along the D129 to Piacé. Coulombiers is marked at kilometer 342 on the Voie de la 2e DB.
