Culture and History

The Pont de Cinq Pierres consists of five broad stone slabs and was built around 1833. It may have enabled carts to cross the river while allowing pedestrians to keep their feet dry.

A carved wooden altarpiece was installed in the Église Saint-Pierre in 1702. The church also contains a Merovingian-type child sarcophagus, which was discovered in 1908 at the Saint-Sulpice farm.

The Chapelle du Rouvadin lies on the border between Crennes-sur-Fraubée and Gesvres and has existed since the 1200s. Today, only a small apse in the old Romanesque style remains.

In the wider region around Gesvres are the castles Château de Fresnay-sur-Sarthe, Château de Lonray and Château de Vassé, the mountain Mont du Saule, the historic site Abbaye Notre-Dame de Champagne, and the hills Butte Chaumont and Mont Rochard.

The Parc Régional Normandie-Maine is located near Gesvres.

The designated site Alpes Mancelles extends across five municipalities, including Gesvres, and was designated by a ministerial decree dated 10 January 1995. The landscape of the Alpes Mancelles features steep slopes, deeply incised valleys, forests, rock outcrops and so-called pierriers; it is also home to a wide variety of habitats and remarkable animal and plant species.
