Culture

Extensive construction work on the church of Sainte-Hélène-Bondeville began in 1852 and was not completed until 30 years later. Inside, there is a monumental 17th-century altarpiece with four tall Corinthian columns. The central stained-glass window dates from 1895 and was created by glass painter Gustave Drouin.

The former Saint-Pierre church in Bondeville preserves some remains from the 12th century inside. It was converted into a cultural centre that hosts numerous activities and exhibitions. In the gardens surrounding the cultural centre stands the Bondeville cemetery cross, which dates from the 16th century. The Calvary of Alventot is a monument built from sandstone from the Malleville area, dating from the 15th century and decorated with several religious or funerary relief motifs.

History

The town hall houses a 17th-century watercolour plan of Bondeville. It shows the parish together with the owner of each plot. According to local legend, a thatched porch dating from the 18th century is associated with Guy de Maupassant, who is said to have written one of his Cauchois tales there.

The manor houses and the former priory are considered buildings made of flint, sandstone and brick. They include a manor house, a former presbytery and a more recent building from 1891. The Sainte-Hélène church in Sainte-Hélène-Bondeville was converted into a cultural centre for the municipality and received the “Patrimoine Rural” label from the Seine-Maritime Département in 2021.
