Saint-Léger-du-Bourg-Denis lies in the lower section of the Aubette Valley. To the north and south, the municipal area is enclosed by two parts of the eastern plateau of the Rouen metropolitan area. The Aubette forms a central natural axis and divides the municipality into two parts; the resulting green divide is characterised by riverside vegetation consisting mainly of alders and ash trees.

Nature

The south-facing Côte du Roule offers a panoramic view over the Aubette Valley. A viewpoint has been designated there at the intersection of the GR25 and Rue du Vieux-Château.

Culture

The mills and textile industries along the Aubette in the 19th century played an important role in the development of Saint-Léger-du-Bourg-Denis. Around 1920, the former Philipart cotton spinning mill was converted into a mechanical sawmill; the sawmill ceased operations at the end of the 1960s.

The building known as “Jeudy” and its chimney possess historical and architectural value. The Jeudy building also preserves the memory of the former spinning mill and bears witness to more than a century of industrial history.

The main construction phase of the parish church of Saint-Léger is dated to the second quarter of the 16th century. The church is located on the V.C. 4 in Saint-Léger-du-Bourg-Denis.

Orientation

Municipal route no. 1 leads from Rue du Cantony to the church and then via Rue de l’Église and Route de Lyons towards Rue du Vieux-Château, continuing on to the northern cemetery.

Activities

Atelier Kéramos offers weekly ceramics classes covering modelling, wheel throwing, engobe painting, glazing and firing. Espace Yannick Boitrelle hosts a workshop-laboratory for adult theatre participants; the first two trial sessions are free of charge.

The Jean-René Rouzé media library is free for residents and non-residents and organises exhibitions, readings and creative workshops throughout the year.
