Le Chesnay: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

A hiking route follows the GR211B and then continues to Le Chesnay and Ourville-en-Caux. After the section through Le Chesnay and Ourville-en-Caux, the hiking route crosses the Bois Tortuit.

Hiking and Trails

The circular hiking trail Circuit N°30 – Les fermes traditionnelles begins at the town hall of Ourville-en-Caux. It is 15.2 kilometres long, 6 kilometres of which run along paths, and leads to traditional farms in villages and hamlets in the Pays de Caux. Several hiking trails in Ourville-en-Caux can also be explored immersively in a 360° view.

Culture and History

A replica of the Statue of Liberty stands at the roundabout in Ourville-en-Caux. The Statue de la Liberté d’Ourville-en-Caux is approximately six metres high; local businesses donated the replica to the municipality in 1996. Tourists stop to photograph the Statue de la Liberté d’Ourville-en-Caux.

The railway station in Ourville-en-Caux opened on 25 October 1900. The former railway line from Ourville-en-Caux was single-track and formed part of the Le Havre–Dieppe line via Fécamp. A Gallo-Roman road from Lillebonne to Grainville also ran through the area of Ourville-en-Caux.

The Musée Jean de Béthencourt in Grainville-la-Teinturière is dedicated to the history of the Norman Jean de Béthencourt and his conquest of the Canary Islands, which began in 1402. At the museum, visitors can also learn about the present-day Canary Islands; Grainville also maintains privileged relations with them.

The Chapelle de Barville is situated on a small island in the Durdent. The pilgrimage to it still takes place on the first weekend in May. Outside the pilgrimage period, the Chapelle de Barville is closed, but its grounds can be freely visited.

Nature and Landscape

The Jardin d’Art et d’Essais covers 2.5 hectares on the site of a former 17th-century priory. It is home to thousands of plant species and around one hundred bamboo species. A sinkhole in the Jardin d’Art et d’Essais collects rainwater, which feeds the coastal river Valmont through the underground karst network.

Today, Ourville-en-Caux is considered to be predominantly agricultural.

As part of the three-day Fête de la Saint Laurent, a fair was held on Place Jean Lepicard.
