History
The Porte de Rouen is a monumental complex built during the Hundred Years’ War to protect the town of Harfleur and the royal arsenal from English incursions.

The Porte aux Cerfs was built between 1396 and 1399 under Charles VI; two horseshoe-shaped towers flank a covered passageway.
The first known edition of the Fête de la Scie took place in 1551. The medieval event was revived in 1986 on the initiative of the municipal administration as part of an effort to commemorate and reclaim the town’s history and enhance the community. It takes place on various stages and during processions throughout Harfleur’s historic centre.
The Église Saint-Martin was built between the 14th and 16th centuries. Its 83-metre-high bell tower is considered one of the outstanding examples of Gothic architecture in Normandy. For individual visitors, the Église Saint-Martin is open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., in accordance with the previous year’s opening hours; admission is free.
Museum
The Musée du Prieuré has held the status of “Musée de France” under French heritage law since 17 September 2003.
The Musée du Prieuré’s featured collections include Gallo-Roman glassware from the 1st to 4th centuries, as well as stone tools dating from the Palaeolithic to the Neolithic.
The Musée du Prieuré is located in a 15th-century inn that housed Portuguese merchants who docked at Harfleur’s royal port.
Nature
The Domaine du Colmoulins in Harfleur covers approximately 27 hectares; its wetlands shape the richness of the area, which was classified as a “Local Sensitive Natural Area” in 2009.
Rare or noteworthy animal and plant species can be found in the Domaine du Colmoulins, including the Mercury bluet and the marsh fern.
