Fontaine-le-Dun is the birthplace of Pierre Giffard. He was born here on 1 May 1853. Giffard was a writer, leading reporter, pioneer of modern journalism and pioneer of sports journalism; in 1891, he founded the Paris-Brest-Paris cycle race.

The Église Notre-Dame in Fontaine-le-Dun has a Latin cross-shaped floor plan with a single-nave layout. Its vault is shaped like an inverted boat hull and is supported by carved beams depicting crocodiles, angels with musical instruments and lambs. The church also retains a remodelled choir dating from the 12th century.
