Culture and History

Two documents from 1212 confirm that Guillaume de Vieux-Pont and Guillaume de Boucey, both knights, ceded the right of patronage over the Church of Saint-Hilaire de Briouze to Silly Abbey. The Sires de Vieux-Pont are also documented by an unquestionably associated historical record from the 13th century.

The Manoir dit Le Désert is a fortified granite manor house built at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, featuring projecting pavilions and a corbelled corner tower. Its façades and roofs have been listed as historic monuments since 14 March 1995.

On 15 August, Lieutenant Briot led an advance on Vieux-Pont. The lead tank was Sherman No. 24, “Evreux”, under the command of Maréchal-des-logis Gelis; the gunner was 17-year-old René Baleyte.
