History
Before the French Revolution, Tessé-Froulay belonged to the Counts of Tessé de Froulay. In 1808, part of the Tessé territory became an independent commune called Tessé-la-Madeleine. In 1824, Tessé was renamed Tessé-Froulay in honour of René III de Froulay, Count of Tessé and Marshal of France under Louis XIV and during the Regency.
