Mieuxcé: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Mieuxcé lies on the banks of the Sarthe and combines its riverside setting with a protected natural area. Part of the town lies within the Haute Vallée de la Sarthe Natura 2000 site, a special protected area with the code FR 2500107. Since 18 July 1974, Mieuxcé has been a member of the Normandie-Maine Regional Nature Park. Upstream from Alençon, the upper Sarthe valley, excluding the headwater areas, forms a broad alluvial valley floor suitable for the spread of floodwaters. The valley is widely characterised by extensive natural low-nutrient grasslands, which locally have peaty to boggy characteristics.

Nature

The area's alluvial soils promote remarkable plant communities of wetland habitats. These include rare species, some of which are protected nationally or regionally. The Sarthe and its tributaries contain spawning grounds for brown trout. White-clawed crayfish have recently been identified in the area's streams; larger populations of bullhead are also found there. Both occurrences are considered indicators of the streams' good biological quality. A pike spawning ground has been created in Mieuxcé within this Natura 2000 site.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul in Mieuxcé houses a 17th-century statue of Saint Peter, carved from wood and polychrome-painted. It is registered in France as a protected movable object; the protection was registered on 4 October 1974.

Near Les Fourneaux stands a 19th-century lime kiln. The Manoir de la Vaudorerie, also known as the Maison de la Vaudorerie, dates from 1670. Near La Fuie are the preserved remains of a former dovecote associated with a former feudal lord's right. The Pont de Mieuxcé crosses the Sarthe.

Mieuxcé has 14 surviving wayside crosses. These include the crosses at the Pont de la Maladrerie, in the Impasse de la Noëlle, on the Route des Terres Rouges, at the Carrefour du Pont, at the Croix-Police, in front of and behind the church, on the Rue de la rivière Sarthe near Orgères, on the Rue du Poirier, near La Huaudière, and in the Hosannière cemetery.

Activities

The departmental roads D520, D1, D101 and D521 run through Mieuxcé. Mieuxcé has developed fishing spots as well as a landing stage for canoes and boats. La Bichonnière is a rustic golf course in Mieuxcé. Near La Coupe, Sophie Bazin offers traditional yoga classes.

The 11th edition of the Foulées de Mieuxcé was announced for 22 March 2026 as a non-competitive run and walk open to everyone. The programme included a 13 km running route or a 7 km walking route, a 9:30 a.m. start in front of the town hall, and refreshments available at the finish.
