Le Merlerault: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The 15th-century Church of Saint Martin houses a complex consisting of a high altar, reredos and tabernacle, all individually listed as protected historic monuments, as well as an 18th-century statue of Saint John the Baptist, also individually listed as a protected historic monument. The altar and reredos come from the vanished Church of Saint Peter in Sées.

Culture and history

At Champ Saint Nicolas, a marker commemorates the former collegiate church of Saint Nicholas. Guillaume du Merle had it founded at the end of the 11th century to house a relic of Saint Nicholas of Myra. The remains of the Church of Saint Peter in Chains in Montmarcé date from the 12th century and preserve a 15th-century west portal; the bell tower has been destroyed.

Paths and routes

The La Chambre hiking trail begins beside the church tower in Le Merlerault at 12 Place de l'Église. The Clairefeuille hiking trail begins in Le Merlerault, to the right of the church tower. The Circuit de Montmarcé circular route begins in Le Merlerault and is intended for hikers; it can also be used by mountain bike or on horseback.

The Balade à cheval – La Boucle du Merlerault horse-riding circuit begins at the church car park in Le Merlerault. The A vélo – Au pays du cheval cycling route begins in Le Merlerault and covers 58 km.

Le Merlerault has a free motorhome parking area.

The pastures of Le Merlerault, including the well-known Razibus, have been regarded as prestigious for centuries. The standard for the Le Merlerault chicken breed was established at the beginning of the 20th century; its name derives from the place of Le Merlerault and the lords of Le Merle, who have been mentioned since the 11th century.
