La Ferté-Macé: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The Base de Loisirs offers horse-riding activities, Swin Golf, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, rides on Rosalies and a skate park. Nature and activities

The “La Vélo’Bocage” greenway runs through La Ferté-Macé and connects Briouze with Bagnoles de l’Orne Normandie over 22 km. It follows a former railway line that has been converted for pedestrians and cyclists. La Ferté-Macé is part of the Normandy-Maine Regional Natural Park and UNESCO Global Geopark.

Gardens and green spaces

Parc Barré Saint is a public garden with a children’s play area, a kiosk and a rose-surrounded garden. More than 500 varieties of plants and shrubs grow in the Jardin Bleuenn, which covers just under 1,000 m². By appointment, the Jardin Bleuenn is opened to the public, offering opportunities for discovery, exchange and sharing knowledge.

Culture and history

Founded in 1901, the Musée Municipal houses a collection of paintings and sculptures in the town hall, in its corridors and various rooms. The museum can be visited free of charge upon request during the town hall’s opening hours.

The Circuit Marcel Pierre begins at the town hall and ends in Parc Barré Saint, in front of the Mémorial de la Paix. Along its route, it features works by a local artist and panels with QR codes.

The 11th-century Romanesque church adjoining Notre-Dame is protected as a historic monument; only the choir remains, and it can be visited as part of guided tours with commentary. The Notre-Dame church can be visited without a guide all year round.

The Musée du Jouet, awarded the “Musée de France” designation, is housed in the former Bains-Douches and presents a collection of old games and toys dating from the mid-19th to the mid-20th century.

Market, cuisine and transport links

A weekly market takes place every Thursday morning in the town centre of La Ferté-Macé. Local producers and regional craftspeople meet there to offer fresh, seasonal and high-quality products.

Tripes à la mode fertoise is a local gastronomic speciality of national renown, served on a hazelwood skewer.

La Ferté-Macé can be reached via the Paris–Granville railway line, using the stations at Briouze and Argentan, followed by a bus connection.
