The ZNIEFF Marais de la moyenne-vallée de la Douve covers the municipality of Varenguebec and is assigned to the overarching ZNIEFF Marais du Cotentin et du Bessin. The Marais de la moyenne-vallée de la Douve is a broad valley with floodable meadows crossed by canals, on mixed clayey-silty soils with a tendency to peat formation. Its moisture-loving and aquatic plant communities are home to rare species typical of marsh habitats.
The marsh is also of great ornithological importance, including breeding populations of white stork, little owl, yellow wagtail, corn crake, curlew and lapwing. The area is designated as a special protection area under the Birds Directive, protected as a Ramsar wetland and part of a regional nature park.

Hiking

Culture and History
The present-day Église Saint-Martin was built in the 14th century and rebuilt several times up to the 19th century. It houses a 15th-century oak statue of the Virgin and Child, which was classified as a protected historic object in 1939. The furnishings also include an 18th-century baptismal font, which has been listed as a protected historic object since 1985.
The C-47 (42-101025) Crash Site Memorial stands on an unpaved road at the southeastern bend of La Plesse Road. The large black memorial stone commemorates the C-47 crew and the paratroopers they transported on D-Day. The memorial commemorates four crew members of a C-47 and 18 paratroopers of the 101st Airborne Division who died in the Bois de Limor on 6 June 1944.
The Butte Bertrand is a truncated-cone-shaped earthwork mound. A circular parcel surrounded by a ditch is associated with it. The earthwork mound has a diameter of around 50 metres at its base, 18 metres at the top and is approximately 10 metres high.
