Those who choose Saussemesnil as a destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment there.
Culture
The Oratoire de la Madone de l’If was built in 1749. Only the chapel and a dovecote remain of the priory Le Prieuré de l’If. At the entrance to the grounds of Le Prieuré de l’If stands the white stone cross Croix de Saint-Martin de l’If. The keystone sculpture Clef de voûte de la chapelle nord is listed as a protected monument.
The small oratory Notre-Dame de Bon-Secours in Ruffosses dates from 1780. Rochemont and the Ermitage, a hunting lodge, were built during the First French Empire; the grounds of this Ermitage contain the sources of La Gloire.
History
The potters of Saussemesnil produced 4,000 godiâos for lighting the triumphal arch in Cherbourg. It was erected in honour of King Louis XVI when he inspected the harbour works on 23 June 1786.
Nature
The circular trail Les Bois is marked in orange, 8.1 kilometres long and suitable for beginners. It leads through the extensive forests of Cotentin, following the traces of the former Brix Forest and along the stream La Gloire; along the way, it passes through Saussemesnil, Brix, Saint-Joseph and Tamerville. The Château de Rochemont on the circular trail is privately owned; the church Notre-Dame-des-Anges is a destination along the trail.
The municipal hiking trails in Saussemesnil are not signposted.
