At the entrance to the cemetery in Sainte-Pience stands a listed limestone statue of Saint Catherine. It dates from around the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries. Those choosing Sainte-Pience as a travel destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment.
Culture and History
The nave and choir of the church in Sainte-Pience were rebuilt in 1733. The Fontaine Saint Armel is located in the car park by the church. At the intersection of La Rimberdière and L'Airie stands a calvary cross with an inscription dating from 1659. The four corners of its base are decorated with shell-shaped ornaments; three different motifs also adorn its sides.
From 1061 until the French Revolution, the Château du Parc was the residence of the bishops of Avranches. The first Château du Parc dates back to Jean de Bayeux’s tenure as Bishop of Avranches from 1061 to 1068, while the second Château du Parc was built in 1769. After the Château du Parc, the Manoir de La Porte is considered the most important manor house in Sainte-Pience. The Saint-Georges Chapel in the enclosed grounds of the Manoir de La Porte was built in 1662 by Georges Hullin, Sieur de la Porte. According to Guillaume Servain, the former Saint-Georges Chapel at the Manoir de La Porte was no longer a place of worship.
Nature and Landscape
The ruins of the Vieux Logis are located near the pond in which the original Château du Parc was reflected. The Bois du Parc once extended over more than a third of the municipality of Sainte-Pience.
The bocage of Sainte-Pience, with its hedgerows, valleys and walking trails, as well as numerous forests, invites visitors to go for walks. Fishing is possible in Sainte-Pience.
Geographical Location
The A84 motorway, the Autoroute des Estuaires, borders Sainte-Pience.
