Culture and History

The Église Saint-Malo in Saint-Malo-de-la-Lande was built in the 14th century and renovated in the 19th century. It consists of a western narthex, a main building with a centrally positioned bell tower, and an eastern sacristy. Inside, there are numerous protected works, including polychrome statues of saints, wooden or limestone crucifixes, and the oil painting “Le Christ et les pèlerins d’Emmaüs” by G. Goubert from 1846, a copy of an original by Jean Restout. During the French Revolution, the Église Saint-Malo was desacralized, looted, and used as a dance hall and saltpeter storehouse.

The manor house in Le Bourg in Saint-Malo-de-la-Lande was partially listed as a historic monument on September 1, 2004. The protected elements include the façades and roofs, the furnished interior of the guardroom, the dovecote, and the planted banked hedgerows.

In the surrounding area, the Fontaine Saint-Clair is traditionally believed to be capable of curing eye diseases.

Rural Surroundings

The Élevage de la Vallière keeps Poitevin goats and Cob Normand draft horses. On Wednesday mornings in July and August, it offers farm tours exclusively by reservation. The Élevage de la Vallière sells raw-milk products directly from the farm, including cheese, yogurt, and butter.

Nature and Trails

The circular trail “Dans les bras de la Sienne et de l’Amiral” is 16.5 kilometers long. Approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes are allotted for it. A picnic bench stands by the circular trail at the town hall of Saint-Malo-de-la-Lande.
