The “L'ancien chef-lieu” route starts at the Église Saint-Martin in Octeville-L'Avenel. It is an easy 10.5 km hike; the indicated duration is 2 hours and 45 minutes. The route offers two loop options and is marked in yellow. There is a car park near the starting point; the route is not served by the Cap Cotentin bus network. The church was built from the 12th century onwards. The arrangement of the stones in a herringbone pattern is considered typical of Romanesque architecture. The Église Saint-Martin also includes a Gothic choir from the 15th century and a tower from the 17th century; it was restored in 1950.
