The Marais de Néhou is listed by the Manche Department as a wetland site among the Espaces Naturels Sensibles.

Culture and history

Camp Patton commemorates the apple orchard where General Patton prepared Operation COBRA, the breakthrough at Avranches, after his secret arrival on 6 July 1944. A Sherman tank stands at the entrance to the Camp Patton memorial site.

The Église Saint-Georges in Néhou has a Latin-cross floor plan with a false transept formed by the bell tower and a chapel. It is illuminated by thirteen stained-glass windows created around 1956 by E. Rault, a glass artist from Rennes in the Ille-et-Vilaine Department.

The Abbaye Notre-Dame de Grâce, the Artothèque de Cherbourg, the Abbaye Saint-Trinité de Lessay and Fort du Roule are located in the wider regional area around Néhou.

The ceramics collection of the Musée Thomas Henry in the Cotentin comprises 135 pieces from the 18th and 19th centuries; the objects come from Néhou, Vindefontaine and Sauxemesnil. Néhou was an important and highly renowned pottery centre whose products supplied local markets and were exported in large quantities to the Channel Islands.

The Château de Néhou was already involved in the events of the Hundred Years’ War before 1366. It is one of the old castles of the Cotentin that have aroused great interest among historians and archaeologists.
