Le Tanu: Holiday Apartments and Houses

Nature

The La vallée de l’Airou route leads from Champrépus towards Le Tanu along the two local rivers, Douquette and Airou. It is an easy 11.5-kilometre hike that takes around three hours. Marked in yellow, the circular route starts and ends at the church car park in Champrépus.

Culture

The Église Notre-Dame du Tanu is open for visits; the local administration must be contacted for access. The Romanesque church has an apsidal half-dome and a portal dating from the 11th or 12th century. It also has a massive oak pulpit featuring the four Evangelists as bas-reliefs.

The Viaduc du Guibel was built in 1869 for the Paris–Granville railway line. It spans the Airou valley, is 98.5 metres long and 22.5 metres high. Accessible picnic tables are available at the site.

History

The Ancienne demeure du Bois Frou was the manor house of the Sainte-Marie family until the mid-17th century. The Dominicans, who had been based in Mesnil-Garnier since 1620, settled in Bois Frou towards the end of the 17th century. The chapel of Bois Frou was destroyed during the French Revolution.
