History and Buildings
In La Haye-du-Puits, you can see the Donjon de La Haye, the remains of the medieval castle and the Eglise Saint-Jean-L’Evangéliste. The donjon is a defensive tower dating from the 11th century and the only surviving element of the former fortified complex with its moats. Its exterior areas are visible; access to the interior is closed for safety reasons, and an information panel on site provides information about the donjon. The Château de La Haye was renovated in the 16th century under Arthur de Magneville. Its Renaissance-style door is visible from the street, while the buildings are privately owned and not accessible. The Eglise de La Haye is a neo-Gothic church built in the 19th century in the commercial centre of La Haye-du-Puits. It houses the tomb of Arthur de Magneville, classified as a Monument historique, made of black marble in the Renaissance style. The top of the south tower of the Eglise de La Haye was destroyed in 1944 and never rebuilt.
