Joganville: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Église Saint-Vigor stands on a promontory overlooking the surrounding bocage. Its northern façade features impressive herringbone masonry, known as opus spicatum. This design dates the building to the 11th century or possibly the late 10th century.

Culture and History

The two limestone tombs at the Église Saint-Vigor have been listed as historic monuments since 1914. Part of the nave probably dates back to the 11th century, while the choir dates from the 12th century. Numerous old graves lie around the church; the cemetery also contains a remarkable yew tree. In addition to religious services, two village associations organise exhibitions and conferences.

The Église Saint-Vigor is located on the Sentier des douaniers and on routes to Mont-Saint-Michel. This network of paths includes the long-distance hiking trail GR 223.

Hiking

The “Porte du marais” hike is an easy 7.9-kilometre circular route and takes around 2 hours and 35 minutes. The circular route is accessible for horse rides, but is not served by the Cap Cotentin bus network. It can be reached by car; there is a car park near the starting point. The hike can begin at Joganville Town Hall and is marked in yellow. The Manoir de la Cour de Joganville, a private manor house, lies along the route.

“La route des Saints – variante B” is an easy 7.7-kilometre hike for beginners and takes around 2 hours. It starts in Joganville at 6 Rue de la Mairie and passes through the agricultural land of Cotentin, where ducks, cows and donkeys can be seen. The private manor house Manoir d’Auberville lies along the route. It has a striking entrance portal with Renaissance-inspired design elements.

The “Entre Joganville et Montebourg” hike passes a well set into a wall; this constitutes a hazard for children.
