Hérenguerville: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

History

A cartulary of Mont-Saint-Michel dating from 1022 to 1026 records that Richard II, Duke of Normandy, gave half of Hérenguerville to Mont-Saint-Michel Abbey. Over the centuries, the right of patronage over the Church of Saint-Gatien was disputed between Mont-Saint-Michel Abbey and La Lucerne d’Outremer Abbey.

Since the Middle Ages, the area of Hérenguerville has been divided between two noble fiefs; each fief built a manor house. The Hérenguerville manor house is associated with accounts of significant alchemical activities.

Nature

For 2025, the Hérenguerville–Contrières–Trelly hiking area is designated. Hérenguerville also has the circular hiking trail “Circuit le tour du village”: it is 9.1 kilometres long, and its duration is given as 2 hours and 20 minutes. Grande Île is located in the wider region of Hérenguerville.

Traditions

The traditional Saint-Gatien village festival takes place on the third Sunday after Easter; Garot bread is at the centre of the celebrations.
