Coast

The Cabines de Bain de Gouville are part of the coastal landscape. They stand in evenly spaced rows on the crest of the dunes and have multicoloured roofs; they are considered a landmark of the seaside resort of Gouville-sur-Mer. The Phare du Sénéquet stands off the coast. Following the sinking of the warship L’Antilope in 1858, it was converted from a granite tower into a lighthouse; the conversion was completed in 1860. The lantern and base are painted black. Today, the lighthouse is 24 metres high, with 18 metres extending above the water at the highest tides.

Culture and History

Le Moulin de Gouville was built around 1810 and restored in 2011. From April to October, the mill offers educational tours from Wednesday to Sunday, from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Le Moulin de Gouville mills wheat and produces flour; the flour produced on site is sold on site during opening hours.

The Cabane Vauban served in the 18th century to defend the coast against English invasions. The Eglise de Linverville is the only church in the municipality that has preserved traces of its great age. It contains very old graves commemorating the names of important parish families. The Eglise de Montcarville is built from crushed granite and has a white-black-bluish appearance. La Filature dates from 1829 and was a wool-weaving mill of considerable renown in the region.

Nature

Havre de Geffosses has a self-guided educational trail with a privacy embankment, two observation windows and information boards. Because of its populations of migratory and breeding birds, Havre de Geffosses is designated as a ZNIEFF area.
