Digosville: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Digosville has a coastline stretching from Port du Becquet to the village of Saint-Germain. One specific route through this landscape is the Chemins entre Ciel et Mer circular hiking trail: the easy loop is approximately 4.5 km long, starts and ends in Digosville at 8 Route Saint-Pierre, takes about 1 hour and has an elevation gain of 106 m. It passes through green hedgerows and wild paths, offers beautiful viewpoints and reveals traces of the past.
Those choosing Digosville as the destination for their stay may wish to rent a holiday apartment.
Nature and Trails
Digosville has numerous walking and hiking trails through the commune’s bocage landscape. They are maintained by the Les trois Déesses association. The Le Pas Vastel stream also flows into the sea near the village of Saint-Germain.
Geographical Setting
The Port du Becquet was built from vertically positioned stones. It is located in the communes of Digosville and Tourlaville. François-Justin Asselin du Vey built it in 1783; in 1785, it was the main loading point for stones from the nearby quarries, which were intended for the construction of the large sea wall of the Cherbourg roadstead. The harbour has 95 berths.
Culture and History
The church of Digosville dates from the 17th century and has an 18th-century gable. The Château de La Garancière dates from 1752. The architect Charles-Félix Morice de La Rue lived in the Château de La Garancière.
The Croix Perrinot is a granite cross. The Fort de Digosville, also known as the Batterie de Bretteville-Haut, overlooks the Becquet de Danneville from an elevation of 75 m and was built between 1878 and 1880 as part of the defences of Cherbourg.
The Manoir de Brucan is a manor house dating from the 16th to the 19th century in the south of Digosville, on the border with Le Mesnil-au-Val. The Manoir de Saint-Gabriel is a 15th-century manor house less than 1.5 km west of the village of Digosville, in the direction of Tourlaville.
