Nature and Coast

The Pointe de la Loge protected area includes Cosqueville, covers 130.26 hectares and is open to the public. Pointe de la Loge lies within the “Caps et marais arrière-littoraux de Barfleur au Cap Lévi” Natura 2000 site. It begins with a small strip of dunes, followed by wetlands. At Pointe de la Loge, Mare Jourdan covers 14 hectares; it includes a pond lined with reeds that provides nesting and breeding grounds for numerous birds.

At Pointe de la Loge, access to the beach is ensured, and walkers can follow the coastline. Pointe de la Loge serves as a resting place and stopover for some birds during migration. At the eastern end of the Cosqueville coast lies Plage des Mares, with remains from the 1939–1945 war.

Culture and History

The Church of Notre-Dame de Cosqueville combines a Romanesque portal with a nave from the 12th century. It houses the 17th-century painting “L'Ange gardien” after Jean-Baptiste Corneille. Restoration revealed the quality of “L'Ange gardien” beneath numerous overpainted layers.

The church of Cosqueville has a bell tower from the 15th century. The octagonal bell tower with lancet windows is considered rare in the Cotentin. The Pierre Plantée, a three-metre-high menhir, also stands within Cosqueville.

Several wells in Cosqueville were restored by the Association Transmission des Cultures et du Patrimoine. At Pointe de la Loge stand small houses that were formerly used by fishermen.

Paths and Regional Features

The GR®223 stage from the Gatteville lighthouse to Cap Lévi reaches Pointe de la Loge in Cosqueville. The Le Vicq circular route is marked in yellow, starts at the town hall car park and leads via the church and Le Vicq beach in Cosqueville. Its starting point can be reached via the Cap Cotentin bus network, using the “Cosqueville – Le Bourg” stop.

Local Cuisine

The Demoiselle de Cherbourg, also known as Bouquet de Cosqueville, is a small, meaty pink shrimp. Le Cellier offers French regional cuisine as a culinary speciality. Ferme de Renouville – Le Cellier in Vicq-sur-Mer is both a salon de thé and a restaurant in a former Norman farmhouse.
