The village landscape of Braffais brings together the Church of Saint Martin, historic estates, bodies of water and the Saultbesnon Viaduct. This setting is complemented by the Lavoir, designated as a picnic area, a footbridge at the Aire de la Baie and a hiking trail with a viewpoint.

Those who choose Braffais as their place to stay will want to rent a holiday apartment there.

Culture and history

The Church of Saint Martin was largely rebuilt in the first half of the 18th century. Its tower was built in 1714, while the choir dates from 1743. A cross in the cemetery bears the inscription “J'ai esté donna par Cousin p. de ce lieu.”

Opposite the Church of Saint Martin is the Manoir de la Martinière, known as “le Château” because it is thought to stand on the site of Braffais’s first castle. The Manoir du Domaine was built on remains dating from the 15th century. The Châteaux-Turbontins rock formation is also part of local tradition: according to this tradition, it is considered the remains of a castle built by fairies.

Landscape and bodies of water

Braffais is described as an area with three valleys and two plateaus. The Châteaux-Turbontins stream forms the western boundary of the village and is also known as the Ruisseau de Saultbesnon. The Saultbesnon stream flows beneath the old chapel of Saut-Besnon.

The Lavoir in Braffais is designated as a picnic area and has been equipped accordingly. The Aire de la Baie includes a footbridge that is 76 metres long and 4 metres wide.

Viaduct and hiking trail

The Saultbesnon Viaduct was built in 2003 and connects Braffais with Plomb by crossing the A84. The structure is 31 metres high and 347 metres long. A hiking trail connecting Plomb with Braffais features a viewpoint with information panels about the construction of the Saultbesnon Viaduct.
