History
The manor house in the hamlet of Les Granges was listed as a historic monument by decree of 20 March 2023. A chapel is located on the first floor of the manor house.
The Benedictine abbey of Notre-Dame de La Sagne was founded in 1028 by the Lautrec family. Remains of the former abbey buildings stand on the banks of the Agout.
The former abbey church is now the parish church of Saint-Géminien. It preserves choir furnishings from the second half of the 18th century. The main altar of Saint-Géminien church dates from 1765 and uses marquetry arranged in a marble-like pattern. Saint-Géminien church also contains 12 protected historic objects.
The Tour des Lautrec is considered the likely last surviving remnant of the medieval abbey. A frieze on it preserves 17 coats of arms. On the Place du Cardinal Bernadou, the façade there dates from the 18th century.
By the Water and on the Trails
On the Rue du Port in Vielmur-sur-Agout, a water access ramp leads to an 8-kilometre navigable section of the Agout upstream.
A footpath to Vielmur-sur-Agout follows part of the “Les Plos de Drulhe” hiking trail. In connection with this footpath, visitors can cool off on the banks of the Agout.
