Mirandol-Bourgnounac: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The ZNIEFF de type 1 Rivière du Viaur encompasses the municipality of Mirandol-Bourgnounac. Nature

Several trails run through the different landscapes. The La Rivière hiking trail follows the banks of the Viaur and the Lézert before crossing the plateau and reaching a viewpoint overlooking Mirandol. The L’Echappée Sauvage circular trail begins in Mirandol and leads from the plateau paths to the steep trails of the Viaur valley.

The Sentier de Cazouls is a shady circular trail. It follows wide paths along the Ruisseau du Lauzentou to the banks of the Viaur, revealing relics of former life in the valley along the way. The Lo Puech Pounchut circular trail is classified as difficult.

Culture and History

In the Middle Ages, Mirandol was a fortified village on the slope above the Viaur. Today, only a ruined chapel remains at the historic site of Mirandol.

The Pont de Cirou is a 14th-century bridge and is considered the oldest structure crossing the Viaur. The Pont de Cirou circular trail starts at the town hall of Mirandol-Bourgnounac, is of moderate difficulty, is 6.1 kilometres long and takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. The Moulin de Pignac, which was restored between 2006 and 2009, is located near the circular trail.

The Le Vieux Moulin circular trail showcases the watermills on the Viaur as evidence of rural life in the valleys. In the past, they were used, among other things, for grinding grain, extracting oil, fulling cloth and sawing wood.

The altarpiece of the high altar in the Église Notre-Dame de Bourgnounac is classified as a protected object; the protection was recorded on 9 April 1964. The altarpiece depicts the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, as well as statues of Saint Peter and Saint Paul in side trompe-l’œil niches. In summer, a wide variety of exhibitions are presented at the Grange and Stable in Mirandol-Bourgnounac.

Local Produce

At La ferme du Pesquier du meunier, strawberries can be picked directly at the farm during the season. The farm also offers untreated vegetables, farm eggs and red berries in baskets, as well as for sale at the market.
