Mazamet: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Passerelle de Mazamet is a 140-metre-long footbridge suspended high above the ground, crossing the Arnette gorges at a height of 70 metres. It is freely accessible on foot all year round. From the starting point at 95 rue de la Resse, two signposted paths lead to the Passerelle de Mazamet.

Trails

The medieval mountain village of Hautpoul is one of the few surviving testimonies to the Cathar period in the Tarn département. The Chemin des fontaines passes through Hautpoul; it is a 4-kilometre-long trail that takes around one hour.

The Sentier de l’Arnette industrielle is a 7-kilometre-long trail lasting around 3 hours and 30 minutes along the banks of the Arnette. Using 16 information panels, it explains the history of delainage and tanning, which made Mazamet and its valley known internationally. The Chemin des passes is an 11-kilometre circular trail with a stated duration of 3 hours and 30 minutes. Most of the trails described are suitable for mountain biking.

Culture

The Musée du Catharisme uses audio guides, touchscreen tablets, videos and models. The Maison du Bois et du Jouet displays more than 1,500 wooden games and wooden toys from France and around the world; it also includes an arboretum.

The ruins of the Saint-Sauveur church were Mazamet’s first parish church and were used at least until the 16th century. The Saint-Sauveur parish church was listed in its entirety by decree on 7 March 2022.

Nature

Around ten terraces, viewpoints or pavilions in Parc Saint-Sauveur or along the Sentier Ferdinand Cormouls offer views over the Arnette valley and Mazamet.

The Base de Loisirs du Lac des Montagnès welcomes visitors all year round for walks or a meal break. It offers supervised swimming in July and August. A 2.7-kilometre circular trail around Lac des Montagnès has been laid out as a fitness trail and botanical educational path.

Activities

The Via d’Arles crosses Mazamet and leads pilgrims towards Santiago de Compostela. The Via Ferrata de Mazamet runs through the Arnette valley and features four zip lines beneath the footbridge.
