Water and Leisure

The intermunicipal Centre aquatique l’Odyssée in Carmaux has a 25-metre pool, a relaxation area and the outdoor Aquatoon area with water features for children.

Parks and Paths

The Parc du Candou was created in the 1930s by the Société des Mines de Carmaux. The park contains remarkable trees across just under 3 hectares. The Parc Jean Jaurès (Sérinié) was also created in the 1930s by the municipal administration. It offers 3.6 hectares of green space to enjoy together with the family.

The Parcours santé patrimoine is a 5.3 km circular route, recognised by the Fédération française de randonnée, along the green pathway beside the Cérou. It connects the Parc Jean Jaurès, the Parc du Candou and Carmaux town centre. Along the route, 23 information boards tell the history of Carmaux, including six historical highlights under the title "Sur les pas de Jaurès". In addition, 14 fitness machines are distributed between the parks du Candou and Jean Jaurès and Stade Jean Vareilles.

The Parc du Cérou has a bandstand on the banks of the Cérou. Carmaux’s parks are open year-round from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Culture and History

Since 1985, the Musée/Centre d’art du Verre has been housed in the building of the former Verrerie Royale. The Musée/Centre d’art du Verre is currently closed for technical reasons. While the venue is closed and the Domaine de la Verrerie reinvents itself, the Musée du Verre Nomade offers a programme of events held elsewhere, outside the venue.

The history of the town also includes the statue of Jaurès erected in Carmaux in 1923 and the house of Pierre-Jean-Louis Campsas, which bears the inscription "La Constitution ou la mort" on its gable. The former Alaux Café-Dancing was located near Gambetta in an impressive building from the early 20th century.
