Culture and History

In the centre of Montricoux stands the Église Saint-Pierre, which is attached to the Château. It has a single-nave layout and seven chapels. The bell tower and entrance portal were partially protected as historic monuments by a decree dated 21 December 1914. The nave and the lower sections of the bell tower date from the 12th and 13th centuries.

The surviving fortifications of Montricoux include a clearly recognisable round tower on Place de la Porte-Haute and two semicircular towers on Rue des Remparts. The half-timbered houses at 32 and 34 Grande-Rue feature large Saint Andrew’s crosses dating from the mid-15th century.

The Château de Montricoux – Musée Marcel Lenoir is housed in a former Templar commandery and contains a museum dedicated to the painter Marcel Lenoir. The former Templar commandery is decorated with 13th-century frescoes. Guided group visits to the Château de Montricoux – Musée Marcel Lenoir are available on request.
