The Parc de la Lère is located entirely within the municipality of Monteils and covers approximately 55 hectares. Near Caussade-Monteils, it forms a green area shaped by lakes within a protected zone dedicated to preserving and enhancing wild animals and plants. The Parc de la Lère is also home to a thriving colony of around one hundred geese.

Culture

The Château de Monteils was built by the Lacombe family at the beginning of the 18th century. In 2023, only the ground-floor level and a few sections of wall overgrown with vegetation remained.

In the village, an avenue of plane trees connects the church, the cemetery and the former château via the former presbytery. The digital Baludik trail “L'étrange puits de Monteils” offers a playful way to discover the village.

After 350 m on the Parc-de-la-Lère loop trail, the ruins of the château and the Church of Saint John the Baptist can be seen on the right. The church was rebuilt after the Wars of Religion at the beginning of the 17th century.

Activities

The Parc de la Lère offers playgrounds, a sports and orienteering course, picnic and barbecue areas, as well as opportunities for hiking on foot, by mountain bike or on horseback. There is also a skate park, wakeboarding, stand-up paddleboarding and inflatable towable rides.

The Parc de la Lère also has a family fishing area, a no-kill course for black bass, two float-tube courses and a trout pond.

The Evasion Cable Park in Monteils has a two-cable tow system on a 400 m-long course across the lake, reaching a speed of approximately 30 km/h. The park offers an introduction to wakeboarding, modules for all experience levels and stand-up paddleboarding. The Evasion Cable Park can be reached from Cahors and Montauban via the A20.
