At the Chêne Henri IV, Henri de Navarre stopped in the shade of the oak tree on 10 July 1579. The tree is several centuries old.

Culture
The Church of Saint-Roch in Merles was ruined during the Wars of Religion and rebuilt at the end of the 17th century. The present church was rebuilt from 1877 to 1879 according to plans by the architect Gardelle, in a style partially inspired by Romanesque architecture.
Nature
Ile de Merles Montardou covers 7.3 hectares in the municipality of Merles. The protection of the area serves to preserve the biotopes required for the reproduction, feeding, resting and survival of the black-crowned night heron.
The Chêne de Merles is freely accessible. Parking is possible along the roadside of the Route du Chêne Henri IV; there is no dedicated car park. Individual and group visits to the Chêne Henri IV are possible at any time.

The Fêtes de Merles 2026 are scheduled to take place from 14 to 16 August 2026 in the town centre of Merles. The programme includes activities for children, a pétanque tournament, a paella meal, a gourmet market, concerts and DJ sets.
Cycling Tradition
Merles hosts the traditional Grand Prix cycliste de la Pomme on a flat circuit approximately 6 km long.
