Culture

The Church of Saint-Martin in Loze was rebuilt in 1461 after being destroyed during the Hundred Years’ War. Its preserved wall bell tower and machicolations are remnants of this phase of construction.

The covered Saint-Jean washhouse dates from 1862. A tour of Loze evokes memories and traces of the daily lives of former residents and leads from the village centre to the washhouse. At the caves of Saint-Géry, a preserved section of wall and a roof opening mark the former Saint-Géry or Saint-Didier church.

There are numerous gariottes and cazelles around Loze. Most of them were built by farmers in the 19th century as shelters for shepherds or animals. The Saint-Jean spring is also one of the surviving traces of everyday life in the past: it supplied Loze and its animals with drinking water until the 1960s.

Landscape

The Bonnette Valley crosses the Loze area from north to south. Its green appearance contrasts with the surrounding limestone plateau. The Aubugue waterfall lies in the upper reaches of the Bonnette; after heavy rainfall, it offers a fascinating spectacle.

Hiking

The PR 1 Loze circular hiking trail: La chapelle de Saint-Caprais is classified as moderately difficult. The route is 12 kilometres long and takes approximately three hours.

Local Attractions

The Vignasse Mill is a watermill equipped with millstones, dating from the 15th century, and the last mill still in operation in the Bonnette Valley.

Le Moulin de Vignasse is a goat farm in Loze that produces raw-milk cheese. The cheese is sold at the farm and at local markets. At Le Moulin de Vignasse, visitors can pet goats and collect cheese.
