Lauzerte: Holiday Apartments and Houses

The medieval town of Lauzerte overlooks the valleys of the Petite Barguelonne and the Lendou and is one of the “Plus Beaux Villages de France”.

Culture and History

The Place des Cornières is a medieval square with façades dating from the 15th to the 18th century and arcades typical of the bastides of south-western France. During the restoration of the square, a ceramic work by the artist Jacques Buchholtz was installed there in the late 1980s.

The Église Saint-Barthélémy in Lauzerte was classified as a historic monument by decree of 6 October 1976. The Baroque altarpiece dedicated to the Virgin dates from the mid-17th century and was classified as a historic monument in 1958.

The Chapelle Saint-Sernin-du-Bosc was built in the 11th century and features Romanesque architecture. It has been classified as a historic monument since 1995, is open year-round and can be visited free of charge.

The Musée du patrimoine de Lauzerte presents the town’s former way of life through photographs from Lauzerte since 1885, traditional crafts and agricultural work. The collection also includes a reconstructed classroom and kitchen from the years 1920 to 1950, as well as 26 models of stone dovecotes.

Landscape and Trails

The GR 65 passes through Lauzerte. Another route is the Promenade de l'eau et des fontaine: this easy 3.5-kilometre walking trail runs through Lauzerte’s medieval lanes, passing fountains, the river and nature.

The Promenade de l'eau et des fontaine also leads to the Fontaine de Frescatis in a green setting and runs for 700 metres along the Barguelonne. Viewpoints in Lauzerte offer sweeping views over the surrounding countryside and the landscapes that change throughout the year.

The Baludik app offers five self-guided discovery tours in Lauzerte; all the clues are located outdoors.

Every summer, Lauzerte celebrates Saint James at the Chapelle Saint-Sernin-du-Bosc. This includes a hike along the GR 65 from Lauzerte to the chapel.

Local Life

Every Thursday in July and August from 7 to 11 p.m., the Jeudis Gourmands invite visitors to sample culinary specialities in the square together with producers, restaurateurs and caterers.
